Without question, ask any Internet Marketer what the number one component of their online business that they need more of and I'm willing to bet that 99.5% of them will tell you TRAFFIC. The fact is, every online business could use more traffic because it is as important as the people that visit stores and shops offline on a daily basis. Without customers (which is what we hope the end result of traffic to our website becomes) a website will simply cease to exist.
It's easy to see why generating traffic to your online virtual real estate empire is extremely important to any serious webmaster. The equation is really quite simple; more traffic equals more clicks on your adsense ads, more signups through your opt-in (squeeze page), name brand recognition, more sales and best of all, more money. Even the worst sales letter promoting the worst product will make someone extremely wealthy if enough visitors show up to ring the bell at the front door of their website. With so much importance placed on this vital aspect to building an online business it is important that you recognize the three real ways used to generate traffic to a website.
1 - Buying Traffic - This is really nothing more than paying for banner ads, text ads, renting an opt-in list or mailing list from another marketer and the ever popular pay-per-click (PPC).
2 - Creating Traffic - This method can be done in a variety of different ways and includes search engine optimization, using press releases, social networking, tweeting with twitter, sending out an email to your list, bookmarking and my personal favorite traffic generation method - article marketing.
3 - Borrowed Traffic - This strategy centers around forming joint ventures, trading blog posts, posting in forums, trading newsletter ads and similar methods.
As you can probably guess, the methods listed above barely cover the hundreds of different ways to generate traffic to your website. As someone who has owned and operated a successful online business since 2005 I've focused a large percentage of my time to finding and using the most successful traffic generating strategies.
